Philosophy and the Science of Happiness.
Erik Angner (PI) (Philosophy, Stockholm University).
This project aims to answer the question What is well-being? by offering a thoroughly interdisciplinary take on the topic. The main output is a monograph that will radically reframe the debate about the science of happiness and satisfaction and explain why policy sensitive to questions of happiness need not be objectionably paternalistic. The monograph should be of wide interest, not just among practicing philosophers, psychologists, and economists but among policy makers and the curious lay public as well. Other outputs include a couple of more technical papers in peer-reviewed literature, a website with a range of ancillary resources, a “white paper” for policy makers, and frequent blog posts about well-being.
